Florent Chopin was born in 1958. He lives and works near Paris.
His artistic aim:
The artist draws his strength from everyday life and the world of imagination. In flea markets, he found tiny elements of life which could have been, in the 17th century, elements for a Curiosity Cabinet, elements which hark back to the time of childhood, so short and so “destroyed”.
He also used elements which come from the world of adults to show the symbolic structure. All animal, plant and human categories are assembled and diverted from their unique meaning: natural objects, small mammal bones, birds, paper models created by the artist…
His work disturbs our natural classification of people and objects from this shift of the object, we forget its function and we find it in another form or associated with another image which allows it to evoke many other ideas than its own, creating a new dreamlike ecosystem.
The artist used these tiny real fragments lost in memory, re-assembles them in order to give them new life, to commemorate old things, a little prehistory of the 1950s, kitsch objects which retain the power to make us smile.
