Gilles Desrozier was born in Paris in 1963, and lives and works in the ciy.
The artist began his initial investigations into War as a child from the age of 7.
His gripping and concise work is produced by creating curious depictions of weapons, using household objects; a camera-stand replicates the machine-gun; equipment for the development of photographic film in turn depicts a small craft used to cross a crocodiles infested river.
The artist arrived upon practice of iconography after the exploration of many mediums which allowed him to saturate his imagination and translate the images from his mind into a formal shape with the paper. He consistently plays with the recurring idea that an image is merely the departure from which all other sequences evolve. The artist uses photographs from his travels as the archive from which the basis of all his artwork is formed.
Gilles Desrozier intently follows his own principal of “fiction enabling reality to float in the air. “ By this, the artist whishes to convey and explore the idea of fiction forming reality, and the attraction of the unexpected, the singular and the element f surprise in all situations.
As an adept of the sfumato of the great Leonardo Da Vinci, he often “dilutes” the outlines of his characters, of his objects in order to melt them into scenery of this artwork. He uses two types of software: Photoshop and Photoretouch Pro, which enable him to enhance the obvious photographic techniques, without neglecting the pictorial criteria. These two types of software are equally used by him to rework the shadows and the light of the entire montage.
“It is chemistry that opens the way to the imagination” Henri Alekan 1909
